Rugby World Cup: Scotland prepare for Ireland opener with shampoo-soaked balls

Scotland have been coaching with balls soaked in shampoo before Sunday’s World Cup opener from Ireland.
This weekend is being prepared for countries in Yokohama by gregor Townsend’s staff, with a torrential thunderstorm forecast.
Assistant coach Mike Blair believes the tactics could assist the team not simply rising temperatures but also take care of the weather, which have reached 33 degrees at their Nagasaki training foundation.
“We had the pulp and pulp out within the ball if we had been back in Edinburgh,” said Blair.
“Since arriving here to Nagasaki it’s mainly just been water since the sweat is much more of a problem.
“The sweat is tough to manage. The conditions here in Nagasaki have been tough.
“Yesterday it stated that there was a 100 percent chance of rain [on Sunday] and now it states a 50 to 60 per cent chance, which means it wasn’t a 100 per cent chance the day before!
“So there will be a fall in temperature but difficult conditions to perform .
“It is good they have been training in the warmth here, so they’ll have the ability to adapt to that too.”
Scotland have dropped six of their past seven Tests against Ireland, along with their competitors could be favoured by a downpour on Sunday, but Blair insists that they have a plan to take care of the No 1-ranked facet in the world.
“In every game we go in using different strategies depending on who we are playing with and what the requirements are,” he further added.
“We’ve a great deal of personnel in our group who are extremely great in [wet] conditions such as this as well.
“We are called a team who want to play a whole lot of rugby and move the ball around quickly, and people feel very comfortable doing that.
“But we feel we have got men in the squad that are capable of playing in different conditions as required.”
