The Hundred Draft: Kane Williamson will be in demand, says Simon Katich

The captaincy attributes of kane Williamson mean he will be throughout The Hundred Draft in high demand, states Manchester Originals head trainer Simon Katich.
New Zealand skipper Williamson includes a strike-rate of 122 in Twenty20 international cricket – a format that is seen as his weakest – substantially below that of West Indies’ Chris Gayle (143) and Australia’s David Warner (140).
While Gayle and Warner will carry a book price of #125k in Sunday’s draft, along with Australia skipper Steve Smith (strike-rate 122), Williamson has positioned himself in the 100k bracket which means he will be available for 2, instead of 1 round of picks.
Katich told Sky Sports News that”without doubt” there is space for a batsman of Williamson’s temperament from the 100-ball contest, which gets underway in July 2020.
“These men add more than their batting – Kane Williamson and Steve Smith particularly,” said the former Australian batsman.
“They are fantastic leaders and clearly have an effect on the remainder of the group and tactically they are quite good too.
“Williamson nearly led New Zealand for their first World Cup so, from this viewpoint, he’ll be in demand I would have believed.
“Gayle is a tough one since his kind in the past few years has been outstanding, especially in the IPL and a few of the additional franchise tournaments he has played .
“But everybody has to weigh it up and see what matches the balance of the team the very best and whether he has a role to play.
“He is up there with AB de Villiers as probably the greatest ever T20 batsman, therefore it will be interesting to check whether groups need him or not.”
While the ECB hosted a draft earlier this week, at which members of the media road-tested technologies and the notebooks to be used for the real thing in Sky Studios on 40, gayle wasn’t picked.
Sky Sports, symbolizing Welsh Fire, made Williamson their next pick to match a batting order boasting explosive hitters Jonny Bairstow, Tom Banton along with Colin Ingram.
Katich confessed that finding the perfect balance across the squad is going to be among the primary challenges come the draft of Sunday.
“If you are paying high dollar you anticipate those guys to be game-changers since they’re quite few and far between but they also play roles where they are going to have a really large chance to impact the game,” he said.
“In a draft like that there are going to be some interesting strategies because with three overseas picks there’s the chance to contract them at any stage of this draft, so it does not necessarily have to be towards the top.
“It will be intriguing to see the way the game along with the format evolves because an innings with 20 chunks less than T20 can have another influence on the batsman’s mindset and the way they need to go about aligning their innings.
“Bowlers are going to be under pressure too earlier in their charms because there are fewer chunks to get on it”
‘The Hundred Draft -‘ Live’ will be displayed on Sky Sports Cricket, Sky One Main Event & from 7pm.
It is going to also be available via Sky Sports’ Facebook and YouTube channels, in addition to reside on the Sky Sports program and streamed on
