Vince Young assesses the NFL’s best young quarterbacks

In Week One, 13 quarterbacks had a passer rating of 115.0 or greater, the most in almost any week in NFL history.
For the first time ever, two QBs had ideal passer evaluations (158.3) in a season opener, and also among them was 22-year-old Ravens signal-caller Lamar Jackson, that became the youngest player in NFL history to post a perfect rating.
Deshaun Watson (23) had a huge Week One revival, despite losing to some last-gasp field goal in New Orleans, and many other players comparatively new to this league impressed. Last year’s MVP Patrick Mahomes (23) continued his triumph using a three-touchdown, 143.2 passer rating opener.
Keeping that in mindwe asked former Pro Bowler and long-time NFL quarterback Vince Young – that will join Neil Reynolds within studio that NFL Sunday, on Sky Sports Action from 5pm – that QBs he’s been impressed by around the globe.
“Deshaun Watson was a lover of me because I was playing!
“I knew he was a huge fan of mine if he first won a National Championship [for Clemson at January 2017] and said my title [within his post-game speech]. I simply remember:”Vince Young” and since that time, I have achieved to him.
“He knows a whole good deal of folks I know, so every time that I get an opportunity to speak to him, I give him my opinion about everything.
“I’m pleased with him. I knew he had the gift, it is just about adjusting.
“I hope he only gets to the stage of telling [the Texans] what he desires. That is a sign of maturity and it has been earned by him.
“I expect he’s telling them:’I need the offensive line , I need more plays over the platter’. I really hope he continues to develop as that he has increased and as I watched Dak Prescott and he’s become successful.
“I need Watson to become showing his adulthood where he can manage more and it’s what he wants. He deserves an offensive line that can protect him so he does not need to operate as much and so he can play just a bit longer than the majority of the men who move about with the ball”
Young himself turned into a quarterback, that was known for his ability to make and scramble plays with his legs – just like Watson – and we asked him whether he saw any similarities between the two.
He explained:”Yeah. He is a bit better thrower than me I believe, but we’ve got a match that is really similar. He’s quite true downfield, makes a great deal of plays, he’s well-loved and a excellent leader of his team. The ball runs .
“He pulls off stuff which you never believed anyone can do.
“So I think we have any similarities but I believe his ball is a bit more precise than me on account of this fact that he threw a tiny bit greater than me growing up.
“I’m not faulting myself but he’s a excellent guy, a really good athlete so I’m pleased with him.”
“Me and Me text and talk a whole lot so that the main thing I say is:’I am pleased with you. You stood all everybody and that hardship talking about you. Today you are in a job, you’re making great plays. With your arm what might they say now, although You’re not only using your legs?’
“I have been very proud of him so I simply tell him to keep doing the work behind the scenes and be certain you keep on your defensive coordinator’s ear and then ask him lots of questions -‘What do you believe a defense will attempt to do to me this season or this match?’
“Once you figure out what you are likely to do and also the preparation, make sure to ask him lots of queries about anything the defense may pick up that you could easily fix.
“Defensive guys are so good – they pick up if you’re rocking [at the line of scrimmage]they know when you stop, you’re just about to snap the ball. They pick up a lot of little detailed things which may help them leap off the ball or react.”
Will Blackmon, 12-year NFL veteran, analyst along with Super Bowl winner Sky Sports until mid-season , also gave us his ideas on Jackson after picking him.
Blackmon said:”I picked him as my captain a week because of the matchup. I figured things out and just thought the Dolphins weren’t ready.
“But I like him this year as right now, it is possible to see how confident he is.
“Last year, when he was finally called the rookie at the close of the year, he started becoming comfortable but once they traded away Joe Flacco and it’s his team nowhe only looks so comfortable and he has so much help.
“He’s got the supporting cast in terms of receivers, he has a great running back in Mark Ingram and he has a great defense and that’s a recipe for victory ”
Young told Sky Sports:'”‘MVP’ and head coach Andy Reid are a match made in heaven.
“Mahomes has a solid arm plus Reid likes to throw the ball deep – enjoys a great deal of deep throws. So I love that entire chemistry mahomes has the arm for this. I enjoy watching those two.”
Young:”I predicted him to win Rookie of the Year so I am happy to find out what happened together [Arizona scored 18 points in the fourth quarter to secure a 27-27 tie with Detroit].”
Blackmon added on this year’s # 1 NFL Draft choice:”I think we saw some maturation from Kyler Murray in the match. He did in the first half when it prevailed, he brought his team back and gave them a chance.
“That’s huge, to find that.”
Young:”Allen did a great job of staying with it [on Sunday since the Bills came back to beat the Jets]. I received the opportunity to meet him some time ago so simply to observe the development of a great deal of these young men, I’m glad.”
“I’m still hoping to feel him out, but he’s a enormous opportunity [with those weapons].”
“I am prepared to find the young guy get his opportunity.”
